what it's worth

What determines our worth? We all know the politically correct or "church-ed" answer to that question and some of us probably really, really believe it. It goes something like this: I am valuable just being me, or I am a child of God and that makes me more valuable than anything, I am unique and that makes me special, or some other phrase like that. We know the people who believe this; they are the ones who hold their shoulders high when fear, embarrassment, and humiliation come knocking. They are the ones who know "it's not all about me".

When was the last time you were disappointed, saddened, or felt devalued by the people around you? Was your first thought "I am valuable just being me?" We are consistently pitting ourselves against others to see who's the best, who has more value, who deserves respect, who is the most athletic, who's the smartest, or who has the nicest car/house/job/spouse/good-looking dog....

I want to stop this ridiculousness - I want to find true contentment in what I am, independent of any other labels. If you're interested in what someone else says about you check out : http://www.bible.org/page.php?page_id=4039.

The trick is to believe it and take a compliment when it's offered.
