Strict Schoolmaster
Do One Thing Everyday That Scares You -Eleanor Roosevelt.
Today that one thing happens to be homeschooling my kiddos. Oh the whining, complaining and feet dragging.
In about 5 minutes I'll trot downstairs and cheerfully announce that we need to get started on today's assignments. Like clockwork every morning at 8:00 am I'll hear the scatter of little feet, hushed but frantic whispers between siblings, and the sound of the bedroom door clicked shut with amazing speed and quietness. Just like overgrown cockroaches.
It's not like I made their home school overly challenging, boring, or tiring. In fact, they get to choose what order to do their assignments, how much parental involvement they want and at 11:00 they get to go to the Y for PE with other homeschoolers, then to Latta Plantation for a harvest festival, church kids group and then time with the grandparents.
Mr. Johnson thinks they need a taste of the real world. Where children and required to sit at a desk for 6 hours a day, have silent lunch, and do homework for 3 hours in the evening. Some days I think it would be nice to immerse them in traditional public education for a day. I can imagine the squeals of delight in anticipation of doing home education after that schooling experience.
May the force be with me as I drop the bomb on them this morning.
Surprise, surprise kiddos guess what time it is? I bet you'll never guess.
